FAQ

Does Minecraft Dungeons II have crossplay?
Yes. Cross-platform multiplayer is listed among the official Steam categories, so Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC players can team up.
How many players can play together?
Up to four. You can play solo, in couch co-op, online with friends or matchmaking, or mix local and online players in the same party.
Do you need PS Plus to play online?
Yes. The official Minecraft article notes that online console multiplayer and co-op require a platform-specific online subscription, sold separately. PC players do not need a subscription beyond Game Pass if they play that way.

The four ways to play

Co-op is central to the game, and the launch options cover every grouping:

  1. Solo — the whole game is playable alone. Blue-charged enemies are tuned as party puzzles, so expect to kite and route fights more carefully alone.
  2. Couch co-op — shared/split-screen play on one console or PC, up to four players in the same room.
  3. Online co-op — friends or matchmaking over the internet, up to four.
  4. Mixed co-op — combine local players and online players in one party, confirmed by Xbox Wire before launch.

Crossplay at launch

Cross-platform multiplayer is confirmed in the game’s official store listings. That means an Xbox Series X|S player, a PS5 player, a Switch 2 player and a Steam player can form one four-hero party. Progression syncing across platforms is tied to your Microsoft Account on Xbox and PC; console save systems follow the platform’s own rules.

Subscriptions and requirements

  • Xbox / PC: Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass include the game on day one, per Xbox Wire. Online play through Game Pass Core or Ultimate on console follows the standard Xbox rules.
  • PlayStation: online co-op needs a PS Plus subscription.
  • Nintendo: online co-op needs Nintendo Switch Online; the Switch 2 version follows Nintendo’s standard online rules.
  • Everyone: a Microsoft Account is required (see the system requirements guide for what that means on Steam).

What co-op changes in practice

  • Loot etiquette matters. Whether drops are per-player or shared is still being verified in-game at launch — until then, agree on a rule with your party (equip-first, share the surplus) before the loot screen settles it for you.
  • Builds complement each other. With no classes, two gear setups can fill the same role. A balanced party covers: frontline melee, ranged damage, and one or two support builds with healing or summon artifacts.
  • Blue-charged enemies are party checks. Official material describes needing “the power of teamwork” against them. Save your artifacts for these fights rather than for trash mobs.
  • Bosses scale to be shared. The confirmed marquee fight, the Twisted Warden, appeared in the gamescom demo as a delve finale — exactly the kind of fight a four-hero party prepares for together.

Quick setup checklist

  1. Create or sign in with the accounts your platform needs (Microsoft Account everywhere; PS Plus / Nintendo Switch Online for console online play).
  2. Decide couch, online or mixed before the party forms — mixed needs one host with extra controllers.
  3. Agree on loot etiquette early: equip-first, share the surplus.
  4. If someone joins mid-run, the connected world makes catch-up easy — travel together to the next region instead of replaying cleared ground.
