Minecraft Dungeons II Gear and Build System Explained (No Classes)
How the build system works: melee and ranged weapon slots, three artifact slots, four armor slots, three talisman slots, enchantments and resources.
FAQ
Does Minecraft Dungeons II have classes?
What are talismans?
What are artifacts?
The five slots that define your hero
Every build answers the same five questions:
- Melee weapon — your close-range damage and the enchant carrier you will touch most.
- Ranged weapon — bow or crossbow for opening fights, kiting and finishing runners.
- Three artifact slots — active abilities: summons, bursts, movement tools. Artifacts are your “skills.”
- Four armor slots — new in the sequel. Armor pieces carry defensive stats and enchant effects, and because there are four of them, defense is now something you compose rather than a single chest piece.
- Three talisman slots — passive effects that run themselves. The officially shown example summons a dog companion that draws aggro and respawns on a timer.

Why “no classes” works here
In class-based games, your fantasy is chosen at character creation. Here it is chosen at the loot screen. Because every slot is gear, switching from a tanky frontline build to a ranged trapper is a matter of what you equip, not a respec. The practical consequence:
- Drops never feel dead. Any item can complete a build you have not tried yet.
- Co-op composition is negotiated, not locked. A party can cover frontline, ranged and support roles mid-session by swapping gear between missions — or players.
- Enchantments are the multiplier. Official examples include weapons that create regen spots on kills. Enchant points re-assignable on gear means a build is one enchant away from a new trick.
Resources that feed builds
Confirmed resource types visible in official material:
- Emeralds — the franchise’s currency standby.
- Souls — the original’s soul-build archetype returns as a resource; expect gear that gains or spends them.
- Echo Shards — a new name in the official resource list; their exact use is one of the launch-period questions players are testing in-game.
- Enchantment Points — the budget for your gear’s enchant slots.
Exact conversion rates and drop sources are being charted by players right now; we will update this page as numbers are verified in-game. Where a number is not confirmed, treat any list on the internet — including lists on other wikis — as unverified.
What we do not know yet (honest notes)
- Full enchant lists. Only the regen-spot effect and the bone-summon talisman are confirmed in official material. Everything else circulating pre-launch is unverified.
- Gear rarity rules. The original used rarity tiers; the sequel’s exact system is not yet documented officially.
- Blacksmith-style upgrade stations. Discussed by players based on pre-launch coverage, but not confirmed by official pages. We will not list one until it is verifiable.
